Surprised after all of Mayweathers smoosing.
Surprised after all of Mayweathers smoosing.
After all the courting Mayweather did, Bob Arum, the guy Floyd hates the most comes in and swoops Shakur Stevenson and Michael Conlan. The two most popular and talked about fighters from the Olympics……… and Bob (that decrepit old bastard) gets both of them.
This isn't a Loma situation. That guy was a finished product ready to go from the start. At 85 you gotta wonder how long Arum has left.
This is a little surprising considering the current trends in the sport. If you watch what Floyd has done with Jack, Davis (Tank), Tabiti. I think it's fair to say that they are on to something at Mayweather Promotions. All of his fighters have gotten opportunities, even J'Leon Love (not all have succeeded obviously).
I don’t get this move at all
Isn't Stevenson co-managed by Ward? Shows how little pull Roc Nation has.
Well done for not signing with Floyd. He has to look after himself and get the best deal possible.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
It may not be a Loma situation but they could both be world champs, or even 2 weight world champs in the next few years.
Floyd seems to be doing ok so far but his stable is weak. Apart from Davis he has no world champs. Jack arguably robbed in his last 2 fights isnt a great sign for a promoter. Also I cant imagine Floyd pays anywhere near what Arum or Golden Boy can. I think Conlan got a 7 figure signing on fee, no way Floyd would do that.
I think Stevenson made the right choice. Top Rank has a proven history of building stars. Floyd showed his true colors after the Jack-DeGale fight and DeGale seemed turned off by his ranting and band standing . DeGale also seems to have a good choice in not signing with Floyd.
Smartest move a kid could make by avoiding a guy who talks about Colin Mcgregor as much as his own top fighters. Whatever you think of Scarum' Arum you're guaranteed a monthly slot and more importantly he won't stand in front of your camera at every oppurtunity.
Stevenson is set to take a huge step up on April 20th (on the Crawford/Khan undercard) against Christopher Diaz. Tough fight for both guys, even at only 10 fights I see Stevenson winning a close decision here.
They live, We sleep
I always quite liked him, is he making a comeback?
I remember 'Green Door' and 'Crazy', plus I admired his denim jacket.
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
When Stevenson debuted I didn’t think much of him. His last 2 or 3 fights started to impress me more though. I don’t think he will ever be a great fighter, but he does look like he will be good enough to be a really good fighter.
Dunno, but I am not that high on Stevenson.
Bigger man George, bigger punch!
