    Default The WPM Log

Hello boys and girls. How are you all doing? I've been an anonymous browser of these forums for a while now, this section is my favourite part as I like to read about what people are doing, follow their progress etc. It's funny, I have never spoken to a single person from this forum before but a few I feel I know well just from reading their logs. Well, I have been on and off with the idea of joining an amateur boxing club for a while now, I've looked around a bit in the past but could never bring myself to do it. I think it's about time I got off my ass, stop thinking about doing it and actually do it.

This log is not like the ordinary kind here, the plan is to follow my progress from where I am now as a total novice, to hopefully one day I'll be sitting here typing as an experienced amateur, maybe even a pro, who knows?

I guess I better give some background info eh?

    Age: 22
    Height: 5'6 (168cm)
    Weight: 9st 3lb (129lb)

My body type I would say is average. A couple of months ago I had a lean, toned physique, but I stopped doing most exercise and now I have lost my high level of fitness and everything else that comes with it. I used to be a keen runner but recently I started working nights so I find it hard to fit into my schedule. My reasons for wanting to join an amateur boxing club are to get in good shape and stay in good shape, and to become an active part of a sport which I love. My ambitions are nothing too serious at the moment, just to get in the ring for a competitive fight would be a big acheivement in my eyes. I'm not really sure what weight class I'd be best suited to, I could definately do with an increase in muscle mass. Anywhere from Super Feather to Light Welter is viable.

My goals at the moment are nothing too hard, but of course it's like that saying "Don't try to run before you can walk". Or something to that effect. I don't want to set myself high goals at this stage as I'd rather ease into it rather than throw myself in headlong.

1.) Fit daily running back into my schedule. This is a very easy thing. I prefer morning running, around 8am as that's the time I arrive home from work. It is not desirable to go running after long shifts but there's no other option really.

2.) Eat healthily. 3 meals a day, cereal in the morning, my dinner in the evening, and a packed lunch at work. This is another pretty simple one. I usually eat healthy food anyway, the only place I'm going wrong is that I have massive portions. Just cut down my portions really, and take fruit in my lunchbox rather than crisps and chocolates. I also need to incorporate more vegetables into my diet.

3.) Join an amateur club. To many this is an easy step, but to me the hardest thing of all is going to be the first time walking through that gym door. I don't know but, when I feel strongly about something, which believe me this is something I feel strongly about, I always get nervous and anxious. Of course I will just have to relax as it's not like there's any pressure. There isn't really any trouble in finding a club in my local area. It's a shame, in the past I went to a local boxing club with the intention of joining, and it was one with the best reputation in my area, but I honestly found the attitude there to be like "what the hell is this idiot here for?", and it kinda put me off that place. Not to worry, there are 2 more clubs which are both within 10 minutes jogging of my house. I have looked around online and can't find much info on either, so I'm sure the best thing to do is go in and check them both out, see which one I'm most comfortable with.

Soooo, that's all I've got to write for now. I'm gonna have to have a sleep now as I've got work in 8 hours and I haven't been to sleep since I got home off my last shift 7 hours ago. The 3 things listed above I plan on putting the plan into action imediately. I will come home in the morning, go for a run, go to sleep, get up in early evening and give the 2 local gyms a call. I'll post again after I've made my first trip to a gym and let you guys know how I find it etc.

Bye for now and thanks for reading.

Also, thank you to all of the people who put the effort into writing your own logs and updating them regularly. If it wasn't for you guys I probably wouldn't have felt inspired to do this log, and also I find those logs motivate me to want to do something similar myself.

Hopefully I didn't bore everyone to death.
