The Quest to Make Ryan Garcia Champ

Chronology:

1. Modern-day ODLH clone (young, handsome, LA product, Mexican roots) Ryan Garcia gets off to a fast start in his career at lightweight.
2. Media, starved for another DLH, laps it up. Ryan enhances the image calling himself "King", wearing a crown, and amassing almost 10 million followers on Instagram and 5 more on Tik Tok.
3. He gets a win over legitimate opponent Luke Campbell in 2021... and it's "off to the races."
4. He clamors (demands) a showdown with Gervonta Davis, and has the UNMITIGATED GALL to state that whoever wins this will become "the (cough) face of boxing." HOW SO?? No one knows.
5. He gets schooled... then knocked out by Davis. (His Instagram following didn't even blink).

Meanwhile...

1. Ryan says he's moving up to 140. (This gets the wheels turning in the boxing establishment).
2. The WBA declares 140-champ Alberto Puello "champion-in-recess" (whatever the hell that means) due to a failed PED test.
3. The WBA rules that 40-year old Venezuelan fighter Ismael Barroso (WBA mandatory) will face 5th-ranked Rolando Romero for the now vacated title.
4. Granted... the WBA also said the winner of that fight would need to face British fighter Ohara Davies next.

But...

1. Ryan is looking to move up to 140.
2. He's gonna want to slingshot to the top, because that's how it's done nowadays, especially with young, handsome, social media phenoms.
3. He's gonna find that three of the champions of the division are:

• Josh Taylor (WBO) - Assuming he gets by Teófimo on June 10th
• Regis Prograis (WBC)
• Subriel Matias (IBF)

Now... you all get one guess as to where Ryan will set his sights.

My guess is, either "A": Ryan waits patiently and quietly until Romero-Davies gets sorted out.

Or "B": The powers that be decide that Ryan vs Romero is what the public (cough) wants now... and that THAT is the next PPV mega attraction, and whoever wins will THEN be the new face of boxing.

Either way, Ryan's path to a shiny new trinket to go with his shiny crown will be paved and smoothed out, in order to ensure the least bit of turbulence along the way.

Ryan Garcia is big with the young social media followers even my son has heard of him. He can see that Garcia is a gimmick and is not a real world class fighter yet, although better than the you tubers that are around today.

Taylor and Prograis would beat him and take the huge payday. Hope they get it but think Ryan avoids them.

Your son is already a knowledgeable boxing fan. Most Ryan groupies don't see that he's a gimmick. Yes... Ryan's better than the YouTubers... but then again, that's not saying much.

Don't forget Matias. Matias murders Ryan. Ryan will avoid him also. That leaves the WBA and Rolly.

We're dinosaurs, Chaps... The new face of the sport is that of the casual fans. They vaulted jake paul, ryan garcia and the like to prominence in a vacuum void of substance. Legitimate fighters exist in a shroud of secrecy because the youngest generation doesn't really comprehend the logic behind toiling away in a dungeon void of cameras and wifi signals to become a gladiator. They are for the fanfare and the spectacle... not the science, the reckoning of the battle, and the code. Ask these people who the Marquis of Queensberry and they'd probably guess its a drag queen that performed at the VMAs. To them Mayweather is TBE, not because of what he did in the ring.. but what he did out of the ring... he marketed himself to them by playing the villain rather than just fighting and let the fans, the media and the historians decide. So we're at the part where everyone is doing that now. Social media insults, good looks, who rapped on their ring walk, who their baby mama is, and all other things determine how watchable they are to the casuals and ultimately how profitable they are. That's the casuals "bread and circus".

The best fighters of our generations and before are ghosts that exist on youtube and their names are buzzwords to be brought up in casual conversations in order to participate. They don't understand what made them special. Mike Tyson maintains his popularity by being a marijuana enthusiast. With his face tattoo hes probably the most normal guy in the room now. Unless you're lucky enough to glean that valuable information from a knowledgeable parent such as Master, the youth are in a state of decay. They often don't recognize things that are unequivocal or majestic, right in front of them. It's sad that we used to worry about the fate of the world, when we placed it in the hands of our children. We don't even have a choice anymore. Everything we held dear is being stripped away and bastardized one by one (look at all the shitty movie remakes and looping samples from our generations music over awful trap beats and the like...) by the consensus of half brained kids that run around tapping their phones on everything and can't put on a clip on tie without help.

So its not surprising to me to watch Ryan Garcia following the De la Hoya blueprint to a Tee. Including firing his trainer after a loss. Blame the trainer, lose the trainer and somehow according to your ego and legion of loyal social media followers... your image is still pristine, even if your voice hasnt changed yet and you sound like mickey mouse.

Whew! It's refreshing to hear other voices say these things. You put it very well, sir. (Also, you made me laugh out loud at your Marquis of Queensberry reference).

Which is why I rooted so hard for Gervonta in this last fight. I don't like that Gervonta is allegedly a woman beater. But for the sake of boxing (the way I remember and fell in love with it)... I had no choice but to root against Ryan.

Like any ugly truth, much of what you said is stuff most of us older, hardcore fans don't want to hear. But it's the truth nonetheless.
