Clinching them and putting your weight on them to rest yourself and tire them out huh? Thats really smart!

@SensorRedSky dude shutup like no one cares hes just trying to tell you how to survive if you get tired you see a lot of boxers do this but if you think this is stupid why comment just take your ass somewhere else

wow, that's useful tip. Now I know how to fight fatigue. I thought u have to work extra rounds in the gym and push yourself to understand and experience fatigue, learn how your body responds to luck of oxidant and make adjustments in your training. But I guess I was wrong, just do what that dude say and you'll be fine.

    WTF SOUND

  6. Nov 12, 2009 at 10:08 PM by RKGOLF

Ah! I see, yea, none of that pulling stuff.

  7. Nov 12, 2009 at 09:56 PM by Gekitatsu

Pulling to clinch is different than just clinching. Clinching you grab your opponent as you said to prevent them from firing and to take a breather. But, you can't grab their arm and pull them to you so you can clinch. That is where I believe it would be a foul.

  8. Nov 12, 2009 at 10:18 AM by RKGOLF

No that is not a foul (as a pro). In a clinch you want to pull them in to prevent them firing uppercuts and hooks. So the ref will yell BREAK! also putting your weight on your opponent will make them even more tired. Unfortunately these types of clips always teach pro techniques to amateurs & you cant do this in AM's. There's a diff btwn styles in AM's and Pro's.

One thing I don't agree with is at :28 he says for you to pull the opponent into you when you clinch. Isn't that a foul since he is using his hand to pull which is using hands not fist?

i have such respect for this great American athlete. He's seems so intelligent and well spoken as well. Why are idiot trolls trying to dis respect him??? A video like this makes the day of a real boxer...excellent knowledge from a true American boxing master

Not NEVER go straight back. Backstep (or rather hop) is good against in-fighters especially if they're loving to throw uppercuts. Gives the chance of a very massive rib shot. The ribs really hurt when they get hit with enough power. Like, you can try and overcome the pain on your cheekbone with your guts well I couldn't bear it on the rib. Had to lay down a bit it's really drastic since you're already out of breath and breath harder than usual.

dont get smart dude you know he didn't mean all the time when he said that lol. the point is, it's not BAD to step back, sometimes you HAVE to do it. if you're refusing too, then you're going to get ko'ed.

Well, when learning pressure fighting, you are always taught to pivot and spin away from the opponent, in order to control the centre of the ring. If people moved backwards ALL THE TIME as you say, they'd be backed against the ropes. Thing is, when people step back, it's not as much as moving backwards as being pushed back

armbar29 - how bout YOU visit a boxing gym sometime? People move backwards ALL THE TIME. I mean it depends on how big the ring is and your positioning too, obviously smaller rings are not as conducive to classical boxers. Here's the thing - you can't always move side to side. I hope you've discovered that in your sparring. Sometimes you just have to move backwards and spin off the ropes. Sometimes you just have to shell up, clinch, and spin your opponent.
