@freespeechisataste But make no mistake i'm not telling you the MMA guys of today can match with professional fighters in each discipline(still debatable though), but the trend is going towards this goal. You should also keep in mind that MMA is relatively new and most pro fighters have started in another discipline. It would be interesting to see the outcome (in terms of skills) of fighters who have started to train in MMA since age 8 to 15 years old!

  2. Feb 10, 2012 at 12:14 PM by JasonZification

@freespeechisataste I'm not sure we can talk about "moderate skills" in today's MMA world, most MMA fighters are today very much well rounded, you have guys like jose aldo, cruz,GSP,frankie edgar, jones etc. who can be used as examples. It is no more like in the early 2000's whereby you got guys who could only wrestle or strike or grapple.

  3. Feb 9, 2012 at 01:45 PM by xiViaarksman

This ESPN guy opens up with a good note for MMA unlike most anchors, good job

  4. Feb 9, 2012 at 12:27 PM by 22texmex

im a fan of mma and boxing but just think..... just cuz that one guy has that bull shit belt and the tv cameras on him with millions in his pocket does not mean hes da best in tha world. how fucking retarded have yall become. you know who is the best guys are the guys who take no credit for shit they just train all day every day the master when he gets called out on his shit somebody gotta die so if im a fan sumthing ima fan of that fuk all this bitching blah blah blah mma noooo boxing isbetter.

  5. Feb 9, 2012 at 06:43 AM by freespeechisataste

@JasonZification No but some fans want to see highly developed skills, not a variety of moderate skills.

  6. Feb 9, 2012 at 06:41 AM by freespeechisataste

both sports can be appreciated: the moderate skills in mma are compensated for by mma resembling a stoush where two guys "hate each other" as rogen said

  7. Feb 8, 2012 at 01:33 PM by JasonZification

@freespeechisataste Man who cares whether an MMA fighter needs to be highly skilled in one area???He just needs to be skilled in the sport he does i.e MMA!!!Hmm of course decathletes are not better in sprint than sprinters, etc.,but hell...WHY should he be??Are sprinters better than decathletes in decathlon?!!

  8. Feb 6, 2012 at 11:12 AM by CallumShaw1996

Joe Rogan is dead right enough said.

  9. Feb 6, 2012 at 08:22 AM by jhustlah08

@AG7292 and while doing that rear naked choke, MMA will be in coma because of the superpunches. and Knock the fuck outta heralknmdlksmjvlcsd.

  10. Feb 4, 2012 at 08:27 PM by notthelastword

@hugo93637 I'm talking about a no holds barred street fight.

  11. Feb 4, 2012 at 12:42 PM by hugo93637

@freespeechisataste Decathletes would be better all around athletes actually so the answer to your question would be yes.A decathletes would do better in a marathon for example than a person who runs marathons would at a decathlon just likean MMA fighter would have a better chance at surviving boxing than a boxer would at MMA.And who the fuck bites in a fight or groin kicks. That would mostly only happen if your life is on the line not a fight I don't know where you get this shit.

  12. Feb 4, 2012 at 10:48 AM by Immortalsyn83

@freespeechisataste MMA & boxing are both "real" fights, just with rules of engagement. They are sports, not street fights... MMA is about being the best well rounded combative sports fighter on the planet.

  13. Feb 4, 2012 at 04:12 AM by freespeechisataste

@hugo93637 Fighter? MMA is not a "real" fight even by mma standards. In a real fight a fighter could bite, attack groins, pull and twist flesh and so on. Western prize fighting leading up to boxing rules was like that. It is impossible for a MMA to be highly skilled in one area, even if they USED to be. Are decathletes better athletes than sprint or marathon or long jump specialists?

  14. Feb 3, 2012 at 05:45 PM by hugo93637

@freespeechisataste I meant in a mainstream fighting competition like MMA.Kickboxing has kicks but is no where near as popular as MMA in the states. And maybe Anderson lost a boxing match but who cares. He was limimited to only usuing his hands. What if he were allowed to use his knees, elbows, and kicks?Would the guy who beat him still have won the fight? No.He is p4p best fighter for a reason, not boxer, not kickboxer, not jiu jitsu competitor, but FIGHTER.

  15. Feb 3, 2012 at 01:31 PM by JasonZification

@freespeechisataste I think its high time people start to consider MMA as a sport in itself instead of comparing it to individual sports... Who cares whether anderson lost 1 pro boxing fight more than a decade ago?!first of all that doesn't even tells you whether he is good or not in boxing, secondly as i say..who cares?!boxing covers just 25% of MMA so the guy doesn't need to box like Ali to be considered a good MMA fighter!Hope you get the point.

  16. Feb 3, 2012 at 10:04 AM by Immortalsyn83

@freespeechisataste According to Freddie Roach he has the best boxing in MMA, he also said Nick Diaz was a good puncher but not a good boxer.

  17. Feb 3, 2012 at 07:40 AM by freespeechisataste

@hugo93637 no one thought of including kicks in a fight? What the? Before current boxing rules the Western fighting tradition was like MMA except much rougher. It evolved from that. Spider may have talent but not in boxing by virtue of his record and display on youtube of his second bout. I dont know how he would do in other martial arts against serious competition; for others to judge.,

  18. Feb 3, 2012 at 07:35 AM by freespeechisataste

@Immortalsyn83 and a huge fan of WWE too.

  19. Feb 3, 2012 at 01:27 AM by hugo93637

@str8cndian How many popular boxers are there now man.You can't really think boxing is better,it's dying because no one before boxing thought of Jiu jitsu or including kicks in a fight. If you think MMA fighters have no skill I suggest watching Anderson Silva fight.Maybe your opinion will change unless you are a completely biase moron like most people. There are indeed alot of unskilled guys but no one forces you to watch them, that is why they never become champions.

  20. Feb 2, 2012 at 11:04 AM by Immortalsyn83

@str8cndian IMO its the most exciting combative sport in the world, even legendary boxer Mike Tyson is a huge fan of UFC & MMA. For every bum in MMA, there are at least 3-5 in boxing.

  21. Feb 2, 2012 at 06:37 AM by str8cndian

ufc is like cheap american product! it stinks, and leaves you very unsatisfied. Half wit fighters that have little skill.

  22. Feb 1, 2012 at 06:53 AM by notthelastword

Davis v Evans was awesome. Sugar dominated on the ground and in stand up! Good show by both mma warriors.

  23. Jan 30, 2012 at 01:30 PM by Immortalsyn83

@freespeechisataste He trained boxing to get better at MMA which he was also competing in when he took up boxing. That was 13 years ago, his boxing has improved greatly since that time. Training with guys such as Freddie Roach & little nog (at his gym) who was a south american games gold medalist in boxing.

  24. Jan 30, 2012 at 05:30 AM by freespeechisataste

@Immortalsyn83 little kid? He was 23. But I guess he made up by fighting his dwarf next time around.

  25. Jan 29, 2012 at 08:20 PM by freespeechisataste

Davis vs Evans was awesome. I couldnt believe how Sugar was able to catch Mr Wonderful legs, stop the kick and take him down! Davis will be back. He is an awesome kicker and his Muay Thai is getting great under the master Brandon Vera.
